Lawsuits Allege the Church of Scientology Committed Human Trafficking
Ongoing scandals plague the Church of Scientology, and the latest lawsuit against the church was filed by a woman accusing its high officials of human trafficking, child abuse, forced labor, and other serious offenses. The woman, identified only as “Jane Doe,” named the church’s leader, David Miscavige, and 25 others as co-respondents for violations of California labor and human trafficking laws.
Jane Doe was a member of the church since birth, and alleges she was banished and placed in an isolation program called “the Hole.” She speculated it was because she knew about intimate marital problems between Miscavige and his wife. During her isolation, she was forced to work on church publicity, until she escaped in the trunk of a car driven by a non-Scientologist. She is suing the church for libel, slander, invasion of privacy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Scientology: A Legacy of Scandals and Controversy
Although the church maintains the recent lawsuits brought against them are nothing more than unfounded allegations, Scientology has had many complaints brought by its former members trying to seek justice for abuse allegations, including sexual abuse. Alleged victims have claimed they suffered immense emotional distress and trauma from continued harassment after leaving the church.
