In a recent video produced by 1in6, a national non-profit organization, 5 women were asked to read different accounts of sexual abuse or assault, all of which were true stories submitted by male survivors. The video touches on the issue of male sexual abuse and the lack of resources or voices for men and boys who have been sexually abused. If you were sexually abused, there is help. Research shows that approximately 1 in every 6 men has experienced sexual abuse or sexual assault. Many male victims of sexual abuse have not shared their stories out of fear, shame, or simply because they don’t know how. The 1in6 foundation aims to expand the way in which the public views sexual assault victims, reminding us all that sexual abuse affects every race, gender, socio-economic background, and educational level.
